at first, you own an Single Vanos or Double vanos M52 B28 ??

For the SV its the M50 Manifold , with specify software a must.
if you want some more Hp, take Sportcams from Schrick ( 252°/244° ) or Schleicher cams 260 /244°)
The exhaust sysem is a little probleme cause, you´ve got a oxy sensor to measure and one behind the catalytic converter, that is the reason why it isn´t easy to build it 2 way like the 328i e36 exhaust system.
This options are good for 230 to 240 horsepower if the engine is healthy.

If you´ve got a DV b28 you could install a M54 B30 manifold , with a adptorplate (http://www.exclusive-engineering.de/) for the M52 Tü
Throttlebody.

Sportcams from schrick 248°/248°
If you take the Z3 Exhaust system from the 3,0l ( perhabs from bastuck cause ist modular 3 parts ) you can built it easily for 2 way .
The only problem are the Flange from the M52 Tü converters to the M54 middle exhaust part .
estimate for 230 - 240 HP

Well, my Z3 is solovanos... Thank you very much especially for links to SGS and camshafts. That helped me a lot.

But I'm little bit confused about the exhaust. My plan is to purchase a custom system (There is a small company very experienced at racing exhaust near my house) so I suppose it's not a problem, that Z3's exhaust system is different then standard E36. I would only like to know, if sport cats and catback will bring some power gain, or it's needed to buy headers as the main "gainer" - in different words - if I can expect the increasing of power by few horses only with sportcats and catback or it's headers who will bring the power boost.

Price for custom catback and sportcats is approx. 1k€ for me, headers are for 1,5k€, so that's the reason for my question :)

if you ve got no Problems with TÜV or Emision controls or something else, you could make a header and a sport catalytic at the Car , but that is not the big thing to having real more performance its only a fine tune ..... but mith thes option you have to change the software, if you want a perfect running car ........
For my Z3 I´ve take the complete Bastuck Exhaust for the M53 B30, cause that is from front To back, two pipes, that eliminates the bottleneck in the exhaust system, only the Flanges to the catalyst must be new welded cause the M54 cat gots´s another radialangle for the bolts
I will take the OE catalytic converter cause we have the TÜV in Germany........
If you want performance take the Manifold , schrick or schleicher Cams , and a Complete Two pipe exhaust, after you install all the complete hardware, you have to go to the Software guy.
I think he have to measure the car with a widebandsystem to see how big is the differenz between the OE software for the Oe hardware and the software for the complete Tuning hardware at your car.
If the guy is a real professionell the car would run like the whole stuff comes like BMW OE
By SGS is that reality, thats the reason he do this efficent work for my cars ......
