Beitrag von: Ripper Date: 07.11.2004 Thema: 325 TDS speed limit ??? ---------------------------------------------------------- I just changed my old E30 325i with an E36 , 316i Cupe that has a 325TD engine upgraded to a 325TDS in 98. Nice car , pulls like a horse and I am allready loving it after 3 weeks. Since I got the car I have never tested the real capabilities of the engine on the highway as there was always bad weather but today was sunny and I took it for a trip. In the rird gear at 5000 rpm the car puls nice but I change the 4'th at 5000 again and then go in 5'th gear ... everything smooth still pulling.... at 210 km/h and at 4500 rpm the car stops pulling and I can feel the fuel is being cut or something ... so that's it.... 210 .. no more :( and I can feel the car will still go as it is as 4500 rmp. Question is , is there a speed limit on the computer or is something else ?? The car was tuned and as I can see from the papers the engine has the following properties : M51 Diesel engine from a 325TD Chip tuning built up to a TDS. The car has 184 HP / 4343 RPM and 345 Nm / 3327 RPM. So the question is ... it is computer limited speed or something else ? |

On the chip inside it stands : 2 287 356 667 on the ORIGINAL it stands 2 287 356 666. So I don't really know what chip it is , the chip brand it is Texas Instruments. Clutch new , just replaced with a racing clutch 2 months ago. maybe your clutch is down ?? Don't think so. Clutch pretty hard. maybe your Airintake need to clean ?? Did not tought about that , will check it out tomorrow but don't think that is the problem as at 210 I feel like the gas it is being cut by the CPU ... just like in my old 325i E30 when you reach 7500 RPM or how much it is (I don't remember)... feels like the fuel is being cut. Chip wieder reinsetzten und gucken ob das Problem sich auflöst oder bestehen bleibt, wenn es wiedererwarten bleiben sollte dann würde ich im nächsten Schritt die Vorförderpumpe unter dem Rücksitzt auf der rechten seite unter die Lupe nehmen, danach die Einspritzanlage....... normal ist das ja nicht :( |

Fuel pump was changed also 1 month ago with a brand new one that can deliver the diesel the car needs at high speeds ... it costed 1300 EUR or something like that. I am upset because in the 4 gear the car will run up to 5000 RPM or more but not in the 5 gear ... that is the main problem. If it would stop at 4500 rpm also in the other gears then I would not be surprized ... the problem is that the fuel is cut at 4500 rpm ONLY in 5 gear ! But I will take the car tomorrow to a running company that has also special testing capabilities : http://www.turbochip.dk/turbochip_de/about.htm I think they will be able to tell me where the problem is ... There are 40km to the highway from here :) so I will do it as soon as I have time and I think I wil let the tunning company take a look at it first and see what they come up with. |

The guys told me that is not sure they can fix it but they can try .... so they put the car on the tes bench , start the engine and started to push it ... 1th gear , second .... 5th gear at 4500 the car .. KEEPS RUNNING UP in speed ... AMAZING ...210km/h ... 225 ...230...up to almost 235 or so .... 5200-5300 rpm... running SMOOTH ... incredible ..... I didn't know where to look .. at the car or at the test bench.... can't belive my eyes ! Well.... the car was running fine on the bench ...NO STOP at 4500 RPM ..... this is CRAZY ...... so I don't know what to believ anymore .... next thing to do , take the car on the highway and try again..... maybe was some kind of glitch or something .... engine to hot ... oil to bad (just changed oil before I took the car to the test) .. don't know ... I am searching an explanation now .... Anyway guys thank you for all the support and see you around ... If anybody has any ideea what can cause this .. please be my guest. |

Problem was the AIR FILTER that was so dirty that the car could not pull all the air it needed. And one rubber pipe strangulated and not sending the diesel retur on the tank. Now everything runs smooth :) |
